Case Study:

Autotracking Sea-Ground Microwave Network

Summary

Challenge: Global Oil and Gas customer on a well program required a sea-ground autotracking system to build a low cost broadband network for their drilling fleet.
Outcome: We designed a system with auto tracking microwave antennas, using tower space on land and bonding the network with a broadband local provider.

Global Oil and Gas customer embarked on a 2 well program in Trinidad. Drilling
was done using a jackup rig and customer wanted to lower the cost of satellite
services while increasing the bandwidth, also design a system that would autotrack
as well as not lose connectivity during link failover. Further requirements
included a requirement for high speed backhaul into their corporate network.

We designed a system that used an auto tracking microwave antenna using
the customer provided tower space on land in Trinidad and in Tobago. We
then integrated both links into a bonding and aggregation solution and working
with local Telcos, was able to provide high bandwidth links for connectivity into
the corporate network.
We worked with the equipment manufacturer to provide the path studies for
the solution as well as with other technology partners to provide the overall
solution. We also had to work with the regulators to get the permissions to use
the type of microwave radios in the solution as well.
